158 JET SKI star James Bushell has achieved a UK first, becoming PRO Open and Pro GP 2011 IJSAB World Champion after a stunning performance in Lake Havasu, USA over the weekend.

Bushy left competitors trailing in his wake following some amazing action out on the water watched by a crowd of more than 7,000 jet ski enthusiasts.

Under brilliant sunshine, light winds, air temperatures hovering in the low 80s and nearly smooth-as-glass water conditions, the final eight 2011 IJSBA World Championships were decided on Sunday.

In Pro Runabout our great Brit Bushell was the fastest qualifier in his class despite facing tough competition from nearly 30 other riders from across the globe.

Finishing second in the first 12 lap moto, he made an amazing comeback in the second 12 lapper, edging 2010 champion Dustin Farthing of Florida to take the race and the title from his American rival.

Riding his new RXP-X-260 to victory, James now has four world titles to his credit as well as three others in Pro-Am classes.

In an article on the IJSBA website James told of his joy at having his dad there to see his amazing performance.

He said: “It was pretty special having my dad to be there on the beach to greet me at the finish line. He’s very happy — I’m very happy. It felt very good, obviously. I knew I had a pretty good lead (on Dustin Farthing) so I was just cruising the last few laps.”

Speaking from 158’s HQ in Tallington, Matt Bullock, James’ business partner said the whole team was celebrating the good news and were looking forward to welcoming Bushy home.

“It’s an absolutely amazing achievement and we are so proud of James’ performance. He’s an incredible sportsman and we’ll certainly be helping him celebrate when he returns to the UK in the next few days. He’s going to need an even bigger trophy cabinet now!”

KING of the jet ski, James Bushell, has done it again, burning off the competition to clinch two trophies including the title of European Champion for the fifth time.

James clinched his double victories after amazing performances at the BJBF European Championships in Belgium at the weekend.

As well as outclassing his rivals to become European Champion in the Prog P Class 2011, he also took top spot in the Runabout Stock Pro-am class after an amazing display of skill, stamina and power on the water.

The jet ski champ went out to Belgium last Wednesday (August 10) and returned home in triumph on Monday (August 15) with his victory spoils – two lovely shiny trophies.

“James has done it again and we’re really proud of his achievements. It’s great for James and it’s fantastic for 158 to have a European champion on the team,” says 158’s Matt Bullock.

He adds: “James turned up at our showroom in Tallington clutching the two trophies which was great to see. He’s an amazing sportsman and we’re delighted for him. He works so hard to stay at the top of his game and we’re so pleased we have his skill, knowledge and expertise to call upon at 158. We’re sure our customers appreciate it too.”

Sea-Doo’s new RXP: AWESOME!

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

“AWESOME” is James Bushell’s verdict on the new RXP-X-260 Sea-Doo ski which he test rode during a 10 day trip to the United States.

James had the enviable task of travelling to Miami, Florida, to be filmed putting this incredible new machine through its paces. You can check out the amazing footage here.

Designed to give riders every possible advantage on the water, the Sea-Doo RXP-X-260 oozes style and hi-tech design with handling that is second to none, says the four times World Champion.

James, who is already the proud owner of one and plans to use it when he races in the World finals this October, has nothing but praise for the new machine, billed by its creators as having “the absolute best handling and performance on the market”.

“It was absolutely brilliant to ride – a really good experience,” he says. “The RXP-X-260 has lovely acceleration, awesome turning capabilities and looks great. It’s an entirely different ski and features a brand new hull for better water traction which has been five years in development.

He adds: “I’m really looking forward to racing it in the World Finals in Arizona this October and showing what it and I can do.”

One of the key features of the new ski is its T3 hull, enabling riders to achieve sharp, precise cornering thanks to incredible traction on the water.

It also benefits from the Ergolock System which was developed to give the rider a more direct connection with the machine and newly styled handlebars and footwells to minimise upper body fatigue and provide more leverage.

Watch out for updates on James racing with the exciting new Sea-Doo RXP-X 260 in the coming weeks and wish him luck for the World Finals in October – not that he’ll need it!

James makes a splash as Britain’s new water sport AquaX gets underway

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

NEVER one to turn down a new challenge, 158’s very own multi world, European and national jetski champion, James Bushell is taking part in Britain’s new water sport, Aqua Cross (AquaX) – jetski racing at sea.

James has competed in two races so far this summer, taking on the boys in the Elite division aboard his sponsored Sea-Doo watercraft.

Racing on the ocean wave is a new experience for James and in his first season he’s chalked up two second places in the first two meetings of the five race series.

Powerboat P1 Management Ltd is the promoter of AquaX and the rights-holder for P1 SuperStock new event. The company has eight years’ experience in delivering more than 85 world championship races in 12 countries.

The AquaX Championship kicked off in Southampton in May where Russell Marmon from Christchurch, Hampshire, took first place on his Kawasaki Ultra 300X in both races.

However, in his first competitive races at sea, James briefly got ahead of Marmon in race two, only to see his lead disappear when conditions got significantly tougher.

Elite 300 Class results
1. Russell Marmon (Kawasaki Ultra 300X) 40 points; 2. James Bushell (Sea-Doo RXP-X 255 RS) 34pts; 3. Richard Cable (Kawasaki STXR) 28pts; 4. Nick Beer(Sea-Doo RXP) 26pts; 5. Ben Vine (Kawasaki Ultra 250) 24pts.

Round 2 of the series saw competitors travel to Jersey where James was determined to turn the tables on series leader Russell Marmon.

“Russell is very experienced at this type of racing but hopefully if the sea is flatter on race day I can close the gap and give him a good run for his money,” James told Powerboat P1 Management.

He added: “Racing on the sea is very new to me, so I’ll still be happy just to make the podium and have some fun.”

And make the podium he certainly did. Just as in the opening round, it was James that took the fight to Marmon.

Holding the lead for much of the race, James battled hard before a recovering Marmon got past the 158 rider and secured victory. Speaking after the meet, James was pleased with his performance. “It’s been a very good day for me as I’m much closer to Russell now and am really getting to grips with racing in the sea,” he said. “I led moto one for about 10 laps and was also not far behind him in the second race so know I have the pace to take him on.”

Elite 300 Class results
1.
Russell Marmon, (Kawasaki Ultra 300X) 40 points; 2. James Bushell (Sea-Doo RXT-X 260 RS) 34 points; 3. Anya Colley (Sea-Doo RXT-X 260 AS). 4. Nick Beer (Sea-Doo RXP-X 255 RS). 5. Richard Cable (Kawasaki Ultra 300X).

This latest result means James currently lies in second place in the Elite 300 class on 68 points, 12 points behind Championship leader Russell Marmon on 80 points.
Next event takes place at Sutton Harbour, Plymouth on July 16 and 17. Watch this space for updates on James’ progress and don’t forget to send him some good luck messages. He’d love to hear from you.
